Students on the BA and MA programmes of American Studies develop language skills in English and learn about American society and culture, including American history and geography, American literature and the arts, media and cinema in the USA. Taking part in American Studies, graduates develop competences which give them a competitive advantage in the increasingly demanding language services market.

Cultural Communication

BA programme
The students of BA and MA programme of Cultural Communication Studies develop language skills in English and learn Polish at the basic level. They attend courses in the field of linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies, classes fostering students' competences in analysing complex phenomena of various cultures and societies, as well as developing project management skills and acquiring knowledge of managing cultural institutions. For this purpose, they learn modern information technologies and acquire the ability to create projects and organise artistic activities in socially and politically diverse cultures. English

English Studies

BA and MA programmes
Students on the BA and MA programmes are involved in three areas of study: literature, linguistics and language teaching. In the literature component, students learn about British literature through the ages (prose, poetry and drama), perspectives on American literature, as well as the histories and geographies of both countries. In the linguistics component, students study areas such as morphology, descriptive grammar and syntax and phonetics, as well as the history of the English language. In the language teaching component of the course, emphasis is placed on the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language and the use of IT in the language classroom. Taking part in English Studies, graduates develop competences which give them a competitive advantage in the increasingly demanding language services market.

The studies are a combination of several disciplines such as cultural and theatre studies, history and theory of arts, acting, and management, as well as marketing, advertising, and basic finance and law. The courses are conducted by experienced theoreticians and practitioners. Graduates will be able to work in artistic and cultural institutions, as well as offices and foundations which organize festivals and events in various artistic fields. Taking part in the studies, graduates develop competences which enable them to apply various techniques of cultural communication and soft competences in managing cultural and artistic institutions on an international scale, as well as be skilled in efficient intercultural communication in English.

Institute of German Philology German Philology

BA and MA programmes

 

The Institute of German Philology has a rich variety of courses for Erasmus+ students and other students from abroad. These take place at both BA and MA levels and are linked to the history, culture and literature of Germanic countries, as well as linguistics, business and translation studies. The program enables students to master German to C1 level.
The staff consists of recognized experts in various fields, including native speakers. Most of the courses offered include subjects in practical German and English (BA) or German (MA) where students can develop their language skills. All our students study areas such as German morphology, descriptive grammar, syntax and phonetics. The program of Teaching Studies includes also the methodology of teaching German and English (BA) or German (MA) as foreign languages and the use of IT in the language classroom. Translation Studies students take part in many different courses such as Translation Theory and Methodology, Translation, Interpreting and IT for Translators. In Business Studies, students learn how to perform business, office and marketing tasks with reference to German law.
Our BA graduates can work as teachers of German and English at primary school level, whereas our MA graduates can work as teachers of German at secondary school level, also as translators or interpreters and as employees of foreign enterprises.

The Romance Philology (The Institute of Romance Studies) follows the Bologna Process in the organization of its Bachelor-Master (3+2) system of study modules.
The Institute provides three-year bachelor’s degree programs and two-year master’s degree programs.
Our bachelor programs are based on professional translator services, FLE teaching.
Our master programs are divided into two types: linguistic and literature programs.
All bachelor and master programs are mainly lectured in French. We also offer Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian classes.

Russian Philology

The aim of these Bachelor’s and Master’s courses (full and part-time) is to prepare qualified philologists. The programme enables students to master the Russian language, gain a broad knowledge of Russian literature, an idea of the historical changes in the Russian language, as well as contemporary trends in its development, the history of Russia, and present cultural and social realities. It also provides information on psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, translation and teaching methodologies. The studies also offer a choice between mastering English or German, and learning Ukrainian, Belorussian or Finnish. Bachelor’s degree studies provide a variety of specializations, which enables our graduates to find work in the tourist industry, business, cultural institutions, publishing houses and education. The graduates demonstrate a high level of linguistic competence in Russian, are able to work in the translation industry, educational and cultural institutions, as well as institutions aimed at cooperation between the Russian Federation and the European Union.

This interdisciplinary Bachelor’s course aims to provide the graduates with advanced linguistic, cultural, media and business competences, connected with Russian-speaking countries. Therefore, students acquire a considerable knowledge of history, culture, economics, media, languages and literature. They also familiarize themselves with legal issues in Polish-Russian relations, which allows them to work in institutions of culture and commerce, advertising and news agencies, the media, tourist services, their own companies, state offices, and airports, as well as embassies and consulates. Students not only master Russian, but also learn English, German and Ukrainian. Our graduates demonstrate fluency in foreign languages and are able to perform business, office and marketing tasks connected with Russian law, education and culture.

In this Bachelor’s course, the students learn two languages from beginner level (Russian and one language of a chosen cultural area of the East). Additionally, they master their business English communication. The studies are a combination of several disciplines: cultural studies, linguistic studies, economics and legal studies.
Our graduates are able to work in institutions of culture and commerce, advertising and news agencies, the media, tourist services, their own companies, state offices, and airports, as well as embassies and consulates. In addition, they not only gain a high level of competence in Russian and another Eastern language, but also skills and knowledge of how to perform business tasks and apply trade law in the context of Eastern cultures.

Sinology
BA programme

The Institute offers both full-time and part-time Bachelor’s degree studies in Sinology. The aim is to obtain practical language, cultural and business competences concerning different linguistic areas of China, as well as to master another foreign language (for example English). Our undergraduates specialize in Chinese culture, literature, history and media. They also demonstrate a knowledge of Chinese society, law and international cooperation. The programme is designed to prepare graduates to function in Polish-Chinese and European-Chinese business, culture, media and science ventures. It allows them to work in institutions of culture and commerce, advertising and news agencies, the media, tourist services, their own companies, state offices, consulting companies, airports, and in embassies and consulates. Moreover, they will be an invaluable asset to law offices looking for employees with linguistic competences in both Chinese and another foreign language, as they will have the expertise to perform business and marketing tasks, together with knowledge of legal, cultural and educational regulations in China.

Courses leading to a bachelor degree are practically orientated. The aim is to obtain a working knowledge of a language at advanced level, as well as cultural, communicative and social competencies concerning Scandinavian countries and Finland with regard to the student’s chosen language: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian or Finnish. Practical English is mastered to C1 level in classes of English, as well as in other subjects where English is used. Our graduates are experts on cultural and economic issues,  in addition to public communication, intercultural dialogue, and the media and history of the North European region. They are able to work in editing houses, cultural institutions, Scandinavian enterprises in Poland, and Polish enterprises in the Nordic region, as well as at airports, in tourist services, on ferries, and as translators and interpreters. They have the possibility to continue their studies at graduate level at any university in Poland or throughout Europe.
The studies help to integrate Poland with the Baltic Sea region.

The Institute of Applied Linguistics offers degrees in Bachelors and Masters of Arts in Applied Linguistics. Its main objective is to broaden the student’s theoretical knowledge of the field and to find new and practical applications for that knowledge. The program is designed to create an accessible environment in which to develop the language related skills necessary in many areas of business in the contemporary world.
